I&#8217;m really looking forward to getting back to Perth as I&#8217;ve only been there very, very briefly since 2003 and would love to explore the city a bit more.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"DSCN0493.JPG by stewartesmith, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/stewartsmith\/4041320703\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" alt=\"DSCN0493.JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.staticflickr.com\/2632\/4041320703_4f44fd7916_m.jpg?resize=240%2C180&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nPerth 2003 was the first linux.conf.au I ever went to and I&#8217;ve been to every single one since (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.linux.org.au\/conf\/2004\/\">2004 in Adelaide<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linux.org.au\/conf\/2005\/\">2005 in Canberra<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linux.org.au\/conf\/2006\/\">2006 in Dunedin<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linux.org.au\/conf\/2007\/\">2007 in Sydney<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linux.org.au\/conf\/2008\/\">2008 in Melbourne<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linux.org.au\/conf\/2009\/\">2009 in Hobart<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160405045221\/http:\/\/www.lca2010.org.nz\/\">2010 in Wellington<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/2011.linux.conf.au\/\">2011 in Brisbane<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/lca2012.linux.org.au\/\">2012 in Ballarat<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/lca2013.linux.org.au\/\">2013 in Canberra<\/a> &#8211; each one of them absolutely brilliant). A few things were different back then, for example, there was a terminal room with <strong>actual terminals <\/strong>where you could use cutting edge technologies such as <em>telnet<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"DSCN0594.JPG by stewartesmith, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/stewartsmith\/4041331531\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" alt=\"DSCN0594.JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.staticflickr.com\/2422\/4041331531_ed4270c514_m.jpg?resize=240%2C180&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAs a surprise to many, 2003 was the first year that Linus came to an LCA, arriving in the fashion of the time (a penguin suit).<\/p>\n<p>I have many fond memories of LCA back in 2003 and with the list of <a href=\"http:\/\/linux.conf.au\/programme\/speakers\">speakers<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/linux.conf.au\/programme\/miniconfs\">miniconfs<\/a> for this year mostly up already, it&#8217;s looking to be an excellent conference in January 2014 &#8211; just a few short months away.<\/p>\n<p>Early bird registrations finish <strong>soon<\/strong> so head on over to<a href=\"https:\/\/lca2014.linux.org.au\/registration\/new\"> https:\/\/lca2014.linux.org.au\/registration\/new<\/a> to register <strong>now<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been over ten years since the last linux.conf.au in Perth but don&#8217;t worry, this upcoming January, we&#8217;re back in Perth for linux.conf.au 2014.
