{"id":3739,"date":"2014-05-24T12:14:13","date_gmt":"2014-05-24T02:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.flamingspork.com\/blog\/?p=3739"},"modified":"2014-05-24T12:14:13","modified_gmt":"2014-05-24T02:14:13","slug":"custom-all-of-the-things-on-a-galaxy-nexus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flamingspork.com\/blog\/2014\/05\/24\/custom-all-of-the-things-on-a-galaxy-nexus\/","title":{"rendered":"Custom all of the things on a Galaxy Nexus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not being afraid to completely brick a phone is a good thing, and lets you go and play with a bunch of cool stuff.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s the well known <a href=\"http:\/\/cyanogenmod.org\/\">cyanogenmod<\/a> project &#8211; which does awesome things like have a more recent Android build for a Galaxy Nexus than what google provides.<\/p>\n<p>To flash it, you&#8217;re usually told to go grab Clockwork Recovery image. This works fine to erase everything and flash Cyanogenmod (or others). <strong>However<\/strong>, if you want to run your phone with encryption and apply OTA updates, you&#8217;re out of luck.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily there exists the <a href=\"http:\/\/teamw.in\/project\/twrp2\">Team Win Recovery Project<\/a>, specifically this version (<a href=\"http:\/\/techerrata.com\/file\/twrp2\/maguro\/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.2-maguro.img\">2.6.3.2 for the Galaxy Nexus<\/a>) which can actually decrypt the storage from current Cyanogenmod\/Android builds to apply updates, do backups etc.<\/p>\n<p>It appears that it&#8217;s now possible to update your ROM without having to tether it to a computer and do a dance with adb and tmpfs. yay.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not being afraid to completely brick a phone is a good thing, and lets you go and play with a bunch of cool stuff.
