great – I get to pay more for a service I DON’T WANT! I just want internet, not a phone line (which I aparrently have to have to get ADSL).

It only applies if you need a new line put in, or if the techie actualy needs to do some work.
It only affects people who need a 2nd line, or haven’t got a phone line in their premises.
you should be able to (soon) get unbundled wire to the home from other providers I think so you won’t have to pay the telephone tax either.
